Lehigh's Forrest Earns All-America Honors
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior forward Mark Forrest garnered a Third Team All-America selection by as the United Soccer Coaches as the association announced its 2017 NCAA Division I Men's All-America teams Thursday evening.
Forrest can now add All-American to his long list of accolades during his junior campaign, which includes First Team All-Patriot League, Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ECAC, ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Northeast Region. Forrest is just the second Mountain Hawk (John O'Reilly – 2006) in program history to be a First Team All-Patriot League selection, a Patriot League major award winner, a First Team All-Region selection and an All-American in the same season.
Lehigh's forward tied for second in Division I in points (38) and tied for third in goals (15). His 2.00 points-per-game average also ranks second in the country and he ranks fifth in the nation with a 0.79 goals per game average. Forrest led the entire Northeast Region and Patriot League in goals and points this season, while ranking second in goals and points among the 37 student-athletes selected as All-Americans this year. He also scored more goals and racked up more points than any of the seven All-Americans competing in the NCAA College Cup semifinals and finals this weekend.
Forrest was the lone Patriot League representative on one of the three All-American teams and is the first Patriot League student-athlete to earn All-America status since 2014 (Winston Boldt – Army, Joseph Greenspan – Navy). Additionally, Forrest and Rider's Jose Aguinaga (second team) were the only All-Northeast Region selections to earn All-American honors this season.
The Douglassville, Pa. native is the 14th All-American selection in Leigh men's soccer history, beginning with Samuel Nevins in 1926. Forrest is first All-American since 2006 and the third in the Dean Koski era.
