LeTourneau Adds Four Local Products
LeTourneau University men’s soccer head coach Matthew Haesecke announced the commitment of Miguel Cabrera, Alan Flores, Trevor Garrett and Alex Rios – for the 2014 season. All four will be key factors for the YellowJackets on the defensive side and keeping the opposition off the scoreboard.
Miguel Cabrera arrives at LeTourneau along with former Longview High School teammates - Alan Flores and Alex Rios from Longview High School. Cabrera served as the goalkeeper for the Lobos, where he was named second team all-district as a junior and second team all-state as a senior. He was picked the district’s top goalkeeper as a senior. Last year, at Dodge City Community College, Cabrera played in four contests, where he had three shutouts and five saves in 193 minutes of action.
Alan Flores comes to LeTourneau from Longview High School along with teammate Alex Rios. Flores was a four-year letterwinner and starter for the Lobos, where he earned all-district honors on three occasions including first team honors as a senior.
Trevor Garrett is a defender from Kilgore, where they posted a school record 15 shutouts in his career. At Kilgore, they were district champions as a junior and as a senior; plus they were a regional finalist as a junior. He picked up all-district honors, twice, earning honorable mention honors as a senior and second team as a junior.
Alex Rios joins high school teammate, Alan Flores at LeTourneau. Rios was a defender, where he scored three goals and was a perfect 9-for-9 on penalty kick attempts. Rios was recognized as first team all-district as a senior and second team all-district as a junior. He also was the recipient of the team’s Leadership Award as a senior.
The Coach’s Take:
“I am very pleased that we are going to be adding such a fine group of young men to our team. They will significantly help our defense which suffered many injuries last year. The fact that these players are all local is even more exciting because it will hopefully draw more interest from the community.”
