Lewis scores four goals on Senior Day to lead Alabama State
The senior is the NCAA active career goal scorer with 62
"With today being Senior Day it was nice to get everyone on the field," Alabama State head coach Jodie Smith. "We came out and played strong for the full 90 with lots of good combinations. Offensively we looked really good, especially with the amount of goals we were able to put in."
Although it took Alabama State 17 minutes to score, once Ariela Lewis scored the first of her four goals on the day, the Lady Hornets kept scoring at a quick pace for the remainder of the game. She was able to sprint down the right side of the field, running past defenders for 30 yards before putting Alabama State up 1-0.
Just one minute later, Inma Martinez scored her fifth goal of the season after Lewis dribbled down the right side of the field to cross the ball into her fellow senior. In the 25th minute, Lewis struck again to put Alabama State up 3-0. The nation's leading active career scored again in the 30th minute, her conference-leading 11th goal of the season to put the Lady Hornets up 4-0 heading into intermission.
The second half was the much same as Mercedes Padilla scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Shelby Unruh, before Lexi Krieger got in on the action in the 56th minute with her sixth goal of the season to give Alabama State a 6-0 lead. Lewis added her final goal of her home career in the 63rd minute on an assist from Krieger.
