Lions suffer setback vs. Tulsa
TULSA, Okla. - The LMU men's soccer team ended their two-game trip to Tulsa with a 2-0 setback to the University of Tulsa at Hurricane Stadium on Sunday night. The teams were locked in a 0-0 tie before Tulsa scored a pair of goals within seven minutes of each other late in the game.
The Lions fall to 1-2-0 on the season while Tulsa, who has been receiving votes in the national poll, improves to 2-1-0.
While Tulsa had an edge in shots, the Lions had the best shot in the first half. However, the game was scoreless in the first half.
Tulsa finally broke free as Corey Albertson served the ball into the box and Tony Rocha gathered it, one-touched to Jake Dobkins right in front of the goal. Dobkins capitalized for the 1-0 lead at 72:38.
From their Tulsa seemed to gain momentuem, as Tony Rocha fed Omar Maata from about 10 yards out and he scored at 79:46.
Tulsa finished the game with a 20-9 edge in shots while LMU was called for 19 fouls and three yellow cards to Tulsa's 15 fouls and no yellow cards.
The Lions return home to face UC Riverside on Friday, Sept. 9 at 3 p.m.
