'Lopes Battle to 1-0 Loss at NAU
The Grand Canyon University women's soccer team fell, 1-0, tonight in a hard-fought contest at Lumberjack Stadium on the campus of Northern Arizona University. The Antelopes are now 1-5-0 overall, while the Lumberjacks remained unbeaten at 4-0-2 on the season.

NAU scored the lone goal of the first half, and ultimately the game, in the 28th minute on a header shot that bounced around before Sarah Tarver put the ball in the back of the net. The Lumberjacks attempted six shots in the first 45 minutes, putting half of those on target, while GCU had two shots, one of which was on goal.
The teams took their fair share of shots in the second half, but neither was able to score as NAU held on for the close win. The Lumberjacks narrowly outshot the 'Lopes, 6-5, in that half.
The 'Lopes put two shots on goal in the final 45 minutes, but pressured the Lumberjacks defense throughout. Cierra Valdez and Jessica Fitzgerald led the way offensively with two shots apiece, while Fitzgerald, Kathryn Yancone, and Chelsea Santos each put a shot on target.
GCU keeper Cat Lena was solid at the net, stopping a number of Lumberjack shots, including three that were on target in the final 45 minutes. Lena finished with five saves on the night.
