Loyola Marymount Defeats CSU Bakersfield 3-0
LOS ANGELES, Calif.--Loyola Marymount (4-1-1) handed CSU Bakersfield (1-3) a 3-0 loss in women's soccer play Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.
The Lions' Linda Bakker scored in the eight minute and the 33rd minute of the first half for LMU. Cori McGovern added a goal in the 59th minute.
CSUB goalie Kym Gause (Sr., Manteca, Calif., Modesto JC) made four saves as Loyola Marymount outshot CSUB 20-7.
"LMU is an excellent (team), however we beat ourselves with three defensive lapses," siad CSUB Head Coach Melissa Phillips. "We have been asking a few of our younger players to fill roles for us and have done just that. Not it is time for our veteran players to step up. We were given confidence by our senior captain (and) goalkeeper Kym (Gause). She has been an udoubtable force in all areas of the program but especially in goal."
CSU Bakersfield Athletics will commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with a special 'Local Heroes Appreciation Night' Friday night's match when the Roadrunners host San Jose State. The night will include display vehicles from local fire, police and military. The first 500 fans will also receive a complimentary American flag, while the US Army will have their rock-climbing wall on site for fans to enjoy.
Prior to the match, the names of the 26 Kern County soldiers killed in combat action since September 11, 2001 will be read before the singing of the National Anthem. General admission tickets are $8, with seniors 65 + and youth under 14 just $5. Special group rates are also available, call 654-2345 to purchase for the 7 p.m. start.
