Marauders Blank Slippery Rock to Stay Unblemished in PSAC
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men’s soccer team resumed conference play on Monday after a four-game winless streak in non-conference play. The Marauders shut out Slippery Rock by a score of 2-0 at Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium to improve to 4-0 in the PSAC.
Millersville (6-3-1, 4-0-0 PSAC) dominated the possession of the ball in the first side. Slippery Rock (4-6-1, 2-5-0 PSAC) had just one scoring chance in the entire first side, getting outshot by a 13-1 margin.
The Marauders did not take long to find the twine against The Rock. On Sept. 7, Millersville took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Aaron Roland before the game was cancelled 22 minutes into play. Roland, whose goal was taken away by the cancellation, got redemption in the 10th minute.
Roland drove the ball up the left side and crossed it into the center of the box. The ball made its way past one Marauder then found senior Pat Baffuto for a one-touch tap in past the Slippery Rock goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. Baffuto now has five goals on the season to tie Andrew Dukes for the team lead.
Sophomore Ryan Rohrer took control of the ball at midfield in the 31st minute. Rohrer fed the ball over to senior Ethan Daubert, who was positioned 20 yards out. Daubert chipped a one-touch pass to the right side of the box finding Eric Pepper. Pepper knocked the ball down and fired a left footer right side all in one motion to beat The Rock’s goalkeeper Clayton Master. Master finished the game with five saves.
Millersville took the 2-0 lead into the beak.
Slippery Rock was unable to find a goal in the second session despite evening the shot total at five a piece in the half. The Marauders finished the game with a commanding shot margin of 18-6.
Millersville’s Brad Benzing (6-3-1) made three saves and several punch outs to record his fourth shutout, team’s fifth, of the season.
The Marauders remain at home this Friday, Oct. 14 when they host Gannon at 3:30 p.m. Millersville turns around on Saturday, Oct. 15 to host No. 12 Mercyhurst in an important PSAC and Atlantic Region matchup. The Marauders and Lakers are also set for a 3:30 p.m. start.
