Marist Looks To Climb In MAAC Versus Siena
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - The Marist men's soccer team (6-6-1, 4-1-1 MAAC) will host arch rival Siena under the Tenney Stadium lights at 7 p.m. Oct. 21. The match between the local Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes will kick off at 7 p.m. and be streamed live on the Red Fox Network.
MAAC Standings
The Red Foxes are tied with Rider (4-2-1 MAAC) for second place in the MAAC with 13 points. At and 5-0-2 in the conference, Monmouth leads the pack with 17 points. While all 11 teams will compete in the conference championships at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, the top five teams at the end of the regular season will receive an opening round bye.
Last Time Out
Freshman Simon Lund Jorgensen converted on his third straight penalty kick in a 5-2 Marist loss at Iona on Oct. 14. Marist fired 10 shots in the contest and had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks in their first MAAC defeat this season.
Player To Watch
With three shutouts this season and 10 for his career, sophomore goalkeeper Mark Rajovic is one more away from tying Mike Valenti for the program’s all-time record. He enters Wednesday's contest tied with Joe Pilla for second place.
Rajovic has played every minute between the pipes for the Red Foxes this season and leads the MAAC with 62 saves (4.77 per game).
Scouting Siena
The Saints (4-9-2, 3-4 MAAC) sit seventh in the conference heading into the midweek rivalry matchup. They have lost three straight contests and have not scored since a double overtime loss to Rider on Oct. 10.
Siena has been able to create chances, totaling 109 corner kicks to their opponents' 50. Third-year player Junior Rosero is second in the MAAC with 41 shots and has posted team highs with five goals and 14 points.
Looking Ahead
Marist will travel to Manhattan for a 2 p.m. contest Oct. 24. The Red Foxes' final two matches of the 2015 regular season will be at Niagara at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 and at home against conference leader Monmouth at 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
