Marist Soccer To Host Sunday Doubleheader
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – The Marist women’s and men’s soccer teams will host the only doubleheader of the fall in Tenney Stadium on Aug. 30. The women’s team will face Dartmouth at 1 p.m. while the men will take on UNH at 5 p.m. in their home opener. Both squads are coming off overtime wins. Live stats will be available and an HD video stream will be on the Red Fox Network.
Women Last Time Out
Marist picked up its first victory of the 2015 season with a 2-1 overtime win against Lehigh on Aug. 25. Sophomore Brianna Robinson scored her second career goal inside the 92ndminute for the game-winner. Sophomore Makala Foley made six saves in net while junior Danielle Glazer tallied three shots and an assist. The Red Foxes are 1-1 on the young season.
Player To Watch
Glazer has picked up an assist in each match this season and is tied for the team lead with five shots. She had a shot on goal against the Big Green in last season’s matchup.
Scouting Dartmouth
Dartmouth will be playing its 2015 regular season opener in Poughkeepsie. The Big Green finished 8-5-4 overall and 3-1-3 in Ivy League contests to earn second place in the conference in 2014. Though the season ended with a 1-0 loss to Cornell, Dartmouth had a five-game winning streak prior to that contest.
This year’s Big Green squad brings back 19 student-athletes, including nine starters. Last year’s leading scorer Lucielle Kozlov (five goals) returns for one more season.
Men Last Time Out
Senior Brian Coyt scored the game-winner in overtime to lift Marist to a 3-2 victory at Saint Joseph’s on Aug. 28. After a missed penalty kick, Coyt gathered a pass from junior Zachary Reed and hit the upper right corner of the net. Both sides fired 14 shots, but sophomore Mark Rajovic outdueled his counterpart in net by making five saves.
Player To Watch
Reed not only assisted on the game-winner, but also had an equalizing goal in the final minute of the first half after coming off the bench.
Scouting UNH
The Wildcats opened the 2015 season with a 2-1 win over Division III opponent Hartwick on Aug. 28. New Hampshire got both scores from freshmen, as Chris Arling and Alex Valencia picked up their first career goals.
Senior A.J. Albers scored the only goal in a 1-1 draw the last time Marist and UNH faced off. Albers fired two shots in Friday’s season opener.
Looking Ahead
The Marist women’s soccer team will head up north to play Albany at 7 p.m. Sept. 4. Sunday’s contest begins a four-game home stand for the Marist men, who will host NJIT at 7 p.m. Sept. 5.
