Marist to Host Rider on Senior Night
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s soccer team (7-5-4, 3-3-2 MAAC) will host a Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference match against Rider (8-6-2, 5-4-0 MAAC) Saturday night at 7 P.M. This will be the second of a two game home-stand that will conclude their home schedule for the season. The Red Foxes trail Siena and Monmouth in the standings by two points for the fifth and sixth playoff spot in the MAAC Championships.
Previous Outing
The Red Foxes recorded their seventh win of the season in a 3-0 contest on Oct. 29 against Niagara. Marist recorded six shots on goal, half of which found the back of net. Freshman goalkeeper Mark Rajovic (Katonah, N.Y.) recorded two saves and with the help of the defensive line earned his seventh shutout on the season.
Red Fox To Watch
Senior defenseman MJ Stellwag (Newburgh, N.Y.) has been a force on the defensive line the past few games. In Marist’s last outing against Niagara, Stellwag recorded a goal in the first ten minutes of the game which marked his second goal of the season. The Red Foxes will continue to count on him as a big presence in the defensive game as well as a contributor in set pieces.
Scouting The Broncs
Rider is fourth in the MAAC standings after being shut out by conference foe Monmouth 0-1 this past Wednesday. The Broncs have had two close losses against the two top teams in the conference but will look to solidify their playoff spot when they travel to Marist on Saturday night. Sophomore midfielder Christian Flath (Rostock, Germany) leads the Broncs with nine goals this season. Last year he was Rider’s first First Team All-MAAC player since 1999.
A Look Ahead
The Red Foxes will continue MAAC play when they travel to Siena (9-7-1, 4-3-1 MAAC) on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 2 P.M. to close out the regular season. These last two games for the Red Foxes are crucial in determining whether or not they will be in the playoff picture.
