Markovic Named Second Team All-Region
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Soccer senior captain Danilo Markovic has been named a United Soccer Coaches All-Northeast Region Second Team selection. The Queens, New York native recently wrapped up his stellar career by being tabbed a First Team All-MAAC selection last month.
Markovic becomes the Saints’ first All-Region honoree in three years. He is the first Siena player to earn as high as Second Team All-Region acclaim since James Beeston also received the same recognition in 2013.
Last month Markovic became just the eighth player in program history to receive First Team All-MAAC honors. The Saints’ center back started all 18 matches this fall for a Siena defense which posted a team goals against average of 1.20 and four shutouts. Markovic played 1,772 out of a possible 1,798 minutes this season, and added three points on a goal and an assist on the offensive side of the field.
The first four-time team captain in program history, Markovic concluded his Siena career ranking third all-time in matches played with 74, while scoring 11 points which included a pair of game-winning goals. He was previously named a Second Team All-MAAC honoree in 2015, and a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection in 2013.
The Saints posted a 4-7-7 overall record this fall including a 2-4-4 ledger in the MAAC.
