Megan Wood Named CoSIDA All-District
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Junior Megan Wood of Iona's women's soccer team has been voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team. First-Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.
Wood is a Biochemistry major who has a cumulative GPA of 3.96. She is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team member. This past August, Wood participated in the American Chemical Society Conference held in Washington, D.C. as a representative of Iona's research group, Project Symphony. The group run by Dr. Sunghee Lee is centered around studying the effects of the composition of the lipid bilayer. The Maroon & Gold contingent presented their own research projects to professors and scientists from across the country. They also had the privilege to site it on lectures given by many field experts.
Wood appeared in 15 games, all of which she started, this season. She recorded seven shots, two coming against Canisius (Sept. 16) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener and at Rider (Oct. 14).
About the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team:
The Academic All-District™ teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
First-team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and thirdteam All-America® honorees will be selected later this month.
