Memphis' Oduro invited to Canadian U20 WNT camp
March 21, 2012
University of Memphis sophomore Christabel Oduro was called to the Canada National Team Camp in Boston, Mass., that begins today and runs through March 24.
“This tremendous honor can give her nothing but great confidence,” head coach Brooks Monaghan said. “This will not only benefit the University of Memphis, but this will help her Under-20 National Team as well. For Christabel to get called up at such a young age, speaks volumes about her and her ability to play. We are going to miss her during this time as we prepare for our first spring game, but at the end of the day we want to do whatever it takes to make better players and this is something that will definitely make her a better player.”
Oduro recently helped Canada win a silver medal at the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship in Ciudad de Panama. In the semi-final match that qualified Canada for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Japan 2012, Oduro recorded two goals, two assists and earned Player of the Match honors.
The Canadian National Team will play Brazil on Saturday, March 24 and Oduro will be available to play in the match. Oduro is the second Memphis women’s soccer player to be called up to play for her respective countries national team.
Canada is currently preparing for the London 2012 Women's Olympic Football Tournament after qualifying earlier this year in Vancouver, BC. Canada will be one of 12 teams that participate in the tournament from July 25-August 9.
