There are 32 teams left in the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament. The Second Round of the event kicks off on Sunday with all of the seeded teams joining the competition. TopDrawerSoccer previews and predicts all 16 games from the next round of the tournament.

Seeds of team listed, all game times are Eastern Time

No. 1 Maryland(m) (18-0-2) vs. Providence(m) (13-6), 5 p.m.

Providence made easy work on Delaware(m) in the First Round and now takes on the top seed in the Tournament. The Terrapins are playing some of their best soccer of the season and riding high with that 20-game unbeaten run. Forward Gordon Wild has been in the spotlight this week with a couple of profile pieces. The talented left-footed striker will be the one to watch on Sunday. The winner of this game faces the winner of Kentucky vs. Creighton in the next round.

Prediction: Maryland 3-2 Providence

No. 16 Kentucky(m) (11-4-3) vs. Creighton(m) (12-6-3), 3:30 p.m.

Creighton rolled past Tulsa(m) in the First Round, which showed how good this Jays team could be when hitting the high notes. Kentucky will be a bigger challenge for the Jays. The Wildcats are a veteran side with good leadership from Charlie Reymann and Napo Matsoso. Kentucky is 8-0-2 at home this season while Creighton is a disappointing 3-5-1 on the road on the campaign. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Maryland/Providence in the next round.

Prediction: Kentucky 2-1 Creighton

No. 9 North Carolina(m) (11-3-3) vs. Florida Gulf Coast(m) (14-3-3), 7 p.m.

Florida Gulf Coast went on the road and defeated South Florida in kicks from the penalty spot on Thursday in the First Round. The Eagles hit the road again on Sunday for a battle against North Carolina. The Tar Heels are an organized side that does not give away many chances. Florida Gulf Coast is a wide open team that loves to play a fluid attacking style, which might struggle against the Tar Heels system. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Syracuse/Dartmouth in the next round.

Prediction: North Carolina 2-0 Florida Gulf Coast

No. 8 Syracuse(m) (11-3-4) vs. Dartmouth(m) (9-4-5), 2 p.m. Cuse.com

Dartmouth won its First Round game 1-0 over St. Francis Brooklyn. The Ivy League champions are looking for a bit of revenge after losing to Syracuse in last year’s NCAA Tournament. This is a very different Syracuse team, but they present the same problems for Dartmouth. Can the Ivy League champions breakdown the organized Syracuse backline? Will Dartmouth have enough in the midfield to keep hold of the game? It is a very difficult draw for Dartmouth and likely the end of the campaign unless Matt Danilack or Wyatt Omsberg play at an unprecedented level. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of North Carolina/Florida Gulf Coast in the next round.

Prediction: Syracuse 1-0 Dartmouth

No. 5 Stanford(m) (11-3-4) vs. Pacific(m) (13-3-2), 8 p.m.

Pacific defeated Cal State Northridge 1-0 in the First Round in order to advance to the matchup against Stanford. Pacific nearly let in the opening goal in the first seconds of the game against the Matadors as the Tigers struggled to deal with a long throw-in that was eventually headed over the crossbar. Stanford is remarkable precise in set piece opportunities and Pacific needs to be much sharper from the opening whistle in order to have a chance in this one. The winner of this game advances to take on the winner of Virginia/Vermont in the next round.

Prediction: Stanford 1-0 Pacific

No. 12 Virginia(m) (10-3-5) vs. Vermont(m) (14-6-1), 1 p.m., WatchESPN

Vermont defeated Rider 4-1 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. Senior striker Brian Wright scored three goals in the big win. Wright will be in the spotlight again on Sunday as he tries to lead his side to a victory on the road against the Cavaliers. Wright is a talented prospect with plenty of eyes on him this weekend. Virginia will hope to contain him by keeping hold of the ball for long stretches of time. The Cavaliers have a lot of talent on the roster and could make a deep run in this competition if they avoid playing to the level of the competition. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Stanford/Pacific in the next round.

Prediction: Virginia 1-1 Vermont, Virginia advances on PKs

No. 13 Notre Dame(m) (11-6-2) vs. Loyola-Chicago(m) (14-3-1), 6 p.m.

The Ramblers defeated UIC 2-0 in the NCAA First Round on Thursday night. The Ramblers kept the game close for a long time, but scored a second late, which gave the result a more flattering scoreline than it felt like for much of the night. The Irish played their best soccer at the start of the season and have yet to get back to that level in recent weeks. The Ramblers play a similar style to the Irish, which is going to make it difficult for them to pull off the upset. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Louisville/UCLA in the next round.

Prediction: Loyola-Chicago 2-1 Notre Dame

No. 4 Louisville(m) (12-5-2) vs. UCLA(m) (10-7-2), 5 p.m.

On paper, this will be hyped up as the Game of the Second Round. After UCLA defeated Colgate 4-2 in the First Round, the Bruins’ attack looks ready for a bigger challenge. However, the Pac-12 powerhouse is bad defensively. There are many gaps in the team defense and there is a big disconnect between the lines when they defend. UCLA can beat the snot out of teams that are weak defensively, but the Bruins will struggle against the Cardinals organization. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Notre Dame/Loyola-Chicago.

Prediction: Louisville 3-1 UCLA

No. 3 Clemson(m) (12-3-5) vs. South Carolina(m) (11-7-1), 6 p.m.

Clemson defeated South Carolina 2-1 on the first day of the season on August 26 in Columbia. In front of nearly 7,000 fans, the Tigers started the season 1-0. The rematch is on for Sunday after South Carolina defeated Mercer in the First Round on Thursday. The Gamecocks are a much better team than the one from that day, but the Tigers have also improved as well. This is a local rivalry, which tends to favor the more experienced side of the two and could make this just as close as the first meeting. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Albany/Boston College in the next round.

Prediction: Clemson 2-1 South Carolina

No. 14 Albany(m) (12-5-2) vs. Boston College(m) (9-8-3), 1 p.m.

Zeiko Lewis led Boston College to a 1-0 win over Fordham in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. A trip to Albany is the prize for the Golden Eagles in the Second Round. Albany is 8-1-1 at home this season, which includes wins over Syracuse and Vermont in Oct. The Great Danes are difficult to break down on their home confines. Boston College’s game plan has been to defend as a unit and hope for some magic from Lewis. It’s worked up until this point, but an early goal from Albany could seal the fate for the ACC side. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Clemson/South Carolina in the next round.

Prediction: Albany 2-0 Boston College

No. 11 Washington(m) (13-6) vs. New Mexico(m) (12-6-3), 8 p.m.

New Mexico’s secret weapon is not a secret anymore. Redshift freshman goalkeeper Ford Parker is apparently a wizard and able to stop penalty kicks with his mind. Parker led the Lobos to a win in penalty kicks against Portland in the NCAA Tournament First Round game on Thursday. The Huskies need to end this game before they get to kicks from the spot. The Huskies offer different challenges than Portland. The Lobos need to be ready for long throws and defending against balls that are knocked down in the box. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Denver/UNLV in the next round.

Prediction: Washington 1-0 New Mexico

No. 6 Denver(m) (17-0-3) vs. UNLV(m) (10-11-2), 7 p.m.

UNLV survived and advanced in the First Round game against San Diego State on Thursday. The Running Rebels battled through a tough game and moved on thanks to a win in a penalty kick shootout. Denver welcomes the tired legs to the Mile High City for Sunday’s matchup. The Pioneers are experts at limiting mistakes and making life really difficult on the opposition in the attacking third. Denver is a well-coached team that seems ready for this stage of the season. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Washington/New Mexico in the next round.

Prediction: Denver 3-0 UNLV

No. 7 Indiana(m) (11-1-7) vs. Akron(m) (13-5-3), 1 p.m.

Akron’s new weapon in the attack, Nick Hinds, scored twice on Thursday to lead the Zips to a 2-0 win over Villanova in the First Round game. Akron advances to take on Big Ten powerhouse Indiana in the Second Round. As all Big Ten fans know, Akron has been the bully of that block for the last decade and the Big Ten programs have been waiting to get their revenge. Well, they might have to wait another season. Akron has the pieces to make this game really difficult for the Hoosiers. Hinds and Jonathan Lewis are going to be trouble for the Indiana defense. It’ll just be a question if the Akron defense can keep it held together for 90 minutes. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Charlotte/Virginia Tech in the next round.

Prediction: Akron 3-2 Indiana

No. 10 Charlotte(m) (12-3-2) vs. Virginia Tech(m) (11-4-4), 4 p.m.

Virginia Tech defeated East Tennessee State 1-0 in the First Round game on Thursday in Blacksburg. The Hokies hit the road for the game against Charlotte on Sunday. The 49ers are 7-0-1 at home this season. The only question for this game is if Charlotte will be able to break down the Virginia Tech defense. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Indiana/Akron in the next round.

Prediction: Charlotte 2-0 Virginia Tech

No. 15 Butler(m) (13-5-1) vs. SIUE(m) (10-4-6), 2 p.m.

SIUE upset Michigan State in the First Round in penalty kicks to earn a spot in the Second Round. The Butler Bulldogs eagerly await the challenge from SIUE. Butler is so good at home. The Bulldogs finished the season 9-1 at the Butler Bowl this season. Butler beat the Cougars 2-0 earlier this season. This game will probably play out the same way. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Wake Forest/Coastal Carolina in the next round.

Prediction: Butler 2-0 SIUE

No. 2 Wake Forest(m) (15-2-3) vs. Coastal Carolina(m) (10-6-3), 1 p.m.

Coastal Carolina defeated Radford 2-1 in the First Round game on Thursday. Wake Forest is still riding high after winning the ACC Tournament last week. The Demon Deacons are 11-1-1 at home this season, which includes a 12-game unbeaten run after losing the first game of the season at home to Saint Louis. Bobby Muuss side looks to be playing the best soccer in Division I right now and are the team to beat at this stage of the campaign. The winner of this game advances to play the winner of Butler/SIUE in the next round.

Prediction: Wake Forest 3-1 Coastal Carolina

TDS Record: 10-6
