Men's Soccer Battles to 2-2 Draw
COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a matchup of the top two teams in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team battled Saginaw Valley to a 2-2 come-from-behind draw on Sunday afternoon at Panther Field.
The Panthers extended its upbeaten streak to eight, included five at home.
After sprinting out a 2-0 lead in the first half, the Cardinals (8-3-4; 7-2-3 GLIAC) surrendered a pair of second half goals, forcing the extra time, which extended into two overtime periods.
SVSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when Michael Lamb connected on a corner kick from Craig Neal, for his fourth goal of the season.
Less than two minutes later, Lachlan Savage tacked on another goal for the Cardinals as he found the back of the net off another corner kick by Neal. The goal marked Savage's fifth of the season.
SVSU retained the lead heading into halftime, dominating the offensive side of the ball with 11 shots compared to the Panthers five.
Late in the second half, senior Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, Ohio) cut the lead in half, scoring the Panthers first goal at the 71:05 mark. Campbell was fouled in the box by a Cardinal defenseman, setting Campbell up for his fourth penalty kick of the season. The senior zipped in his fourth goal of the season to the bottom right corner.
In the 80th minute, sophomore Brent Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) tied the game 2-2 after finding fellow soph. Caleb Wilson (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Heading into extra minutes, neither team could capitalize on any opportunities to earn the victory.
For the game, the Cardinals held a 23-16 advantage in shots and a 13-7 edge in corner kicks.
Ohio Dominican will host Findlay on Friday, Nov. 1 for the Panthers senior day. Before the match, ODU will recognize three seniors Campbell, Dean Dziewit (Waterford, Mich.) and Billy McGlone (Lexington, Ohio).
