Men’s Soccer Falls To Rider In Road Bout
Siena Men’s Soccer dropped a conference contest to MAAC foe Rider, 5-0, in Lawrenceville, NJ Saturday afternoon. The loss came after the team snapped a five-game losing skid with a 2-0 home shutout victory over Canisius earlier in the week.
Siena (4-10-3, 3-6) played 20 different players in the affair, with four different Saints registering a shot. Junior defender Tim Ugo led the way with a pair of attempts and junior Eamonn Conway put a shot on-goal. Freshman goalkeeper Greg Monroe spent the entirety of the contest in between the pipes for the 15th consecutive match, adding a save to his 2018 resume.
Rider (6-9-1, 5-4) gained ground in the race for a bid to the 2018 MAAC Postseason Tournament with the win, their second in three matches. After a tight first half offensively, the Broncs’ Arthur Herpreck finished a free kick with a header in the 45th minute of play, giving the home team a 1-0 advantage at the midway point. The second period of play featured a breakaway effort from Rider, with a pair of early second half scores from Pablo DeCastro and Santiago Castro, a penalty kick conversion in the 72nd minute by Elliott Otmani and a late insurance chip from Mike Wherley sealing the deal.
Overall, the Broncs held a 12-5 advantage in shots and a 2-0 lead in corner kicks, with each team registering a save in the match.
Following in the conclusion of its 2018 regular season road slate, Siena returns home for its final MAAC regular season action of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 31. The Saints will host Saint Peter’s at 2:00 p.m. on Senior Day, with Class of 2019 members Adel Cekic & Marko Stojanovic receiving recognition prior to kickoff.
