Men's Soccer Held Scoreless in 1-0 Loss Against UNH

Garden City, N.Y. – The men's soccer team hosted the Wildcats of the University of New Hampshire earlier tonight in a non-conference contest. After a scoreless first half, it was UNH that struck first to set the Panthers back in the middle of the second half. Despite a valiant effort, Adelphi couldn't manage to get on the score board, resulting in a loss. In defeat, the Panthers drop to 0-3 while UNH moves to 2-4.
The first half was played to a deadlock with the Panthers having a four shot advantage over UNH, 9-5 and had two more corner opportunities, 4-2.
At 30:05, the Wildcats threatened to break the scoreless half as Davis Schlatter gained position of the ball in midfield and raced down the middle, firing a shot at the Panther's goal. Keeper Christopher Herrera just got enough of the attempt to send the ball wide left, saving his team from a one goal deficit.
15:47 into the second half, Issa Tall, from the top of the box, curved a shot around the defense but missed just wide right. The Panthers had another opportunity ten minutes later when Omar Edwards broke a Wildcat defender and got a clean shot off, but was stopped by keeper Travis Worra.
With 16 minutes left to play, UNH broke the silence on a Steven Palumbo goal from inside the box after receiving a pass from teammate Brad Hilton.
Adelphi continued to press, playing the majority of the remaining minutes in Wildcat territory but could not find the back of the net. Despite playing most of the final minutes on the defensive end, UNH managed to get a handful of clean looks at the net, but Herrera made impressive saves to keep it a one goal game. As the game came to a close, the Panthers found themselves on the losing side of a 1-0 score.
In the loss, Herrera made four saves while his counterpart, Worra made five. The Panthers, despite losing the game, won the statistical battle, outshooting UNH 20-12 and had a 7-2 corner advantage.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday, September 18 when they host the Rams of Forham University at home. The contest is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
