Men's Soccer Opens 2014 with Rousing Win Ove
BRONX, N.Y.— The Yeshiva men's soccer team opened its 2014 season with a win on Friday afternoon as the Maccabees beat Lehman College, 3-0, in a match played at Bronx Community College.
Yeshiva (1-0-0) scored a goal in the first half and got two in the second half to earn the three goal win. Sophomore Adir Alon scored the first two goals before Itamar Ben David scored one later to secure the win.
Alon's first of two goals came late in the eleventh minute when he broke free from three defenders on the left side of the net and lifted it past the Lehman goalkeeper who came out of the net and was out of position to make the save. The goal was Alon's first in his college career. After leading 1-0 at halftime, Alon scored again, this one early in the fifty-seventh minute to put the Maccabees up a pair. He took a perfect feed from Rafi Friedman and found himself from point blank range. Then in the final seconds of the contest, Ben David put away a penalty kick to seal the win.
Yeshiva outshot Lehman 16-8 overall and 10-4 in shots on goal. Daniel Amar led the Maccabees with four shots, while Alon and Ben David had three a piece. Lehman was led by Abraham Enahoro with five shots, including two on net.
Yeshiva goalkeeper Maor Feinstein made four saves in net, en route to the shutout. Lehman starting goalkeeper Jesus Martin made five saves while allowing two goals in 67:27 of action. Alejandro Romero played goalkeeper for the final 22:33 and stopped two shots before allowing in the penalty kick.
The Maccabees return to action on Sunday for a contest against York College at noon at Aviator Field.
