Men’s Soccer Set for Spring 2021 Season
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Following the postponement of its Fall 2020 season, Siena Men’s Soccer will embark on a seven-match regular season slate in the spring of 2021. The Saints will face seven MAAC foes in its 47th varsity season and will be led into action by first year head coach Graciano Brito.
“My staff, the players and I are very excited for the upcoming season and are eager to get back on the field,” Coach Brito said. “This has been a difficult and fluid situation, and we have tried out best to adapt and understand the unpredictable nature of the times that we are living in. We are thankful to everyone that worked hard to make our season happen and are ready to focus on the upcoming season and the growth of the program.”
Following the approval of spring competition schedules by the MAAC Council of Presidents earlier this week, Siena will compete in a seven-match, league-only regular season slate beginning the second week of March and lasting until the first week of April.
The Saints will begin their 2020-21 campaign in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, taking on Rider on Thursday, March 11. Siena will commence play at Hickey Field the following Thursday, March 18, when it hosts Canisius on campus.
The Green and Gold will then hit the road for a match at Quinnipiac on Thursday, March 25 before wrapping the month of March at home on Sunday, March 28 against Monmouth. Coach Brito will look for vengeance against his former team when Siena travels to Hamden, Connecticut to face the Bobcats, where he spent the previous eight seasons as an assistant coach.
The team will kick off the month of April with its final home match of the regular season, hosting league foe Saint Peter’s at Hickey Field on Thursday, April 1. The Saints conclude their regular season slate with road bouts at 2019 MAAC Champion Iona on Saturday, April 3 and at Niagara on Monday, April 5. Match times for each regular season contest will be announced in the neat future.
The 2020-21 MAAC men’s soccer season will culminate with the 2021 MAAC Tournament April 11 – 17. The Quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, April 11, while the Semifinals will be on Wednesday, April 14, and the MAAC Championship will be held on Saturday, April 17. The matches will be held at the home field of the higher seed.
Under the leadership of Brito, Siena will look to improve on a 5-12-1 mark in 2019 and is expected to return 15 letter winners from last year’s roster, while adding 12 newcomers.
