Men’s Soccer: Arizona Christian Loses 3-0 to Westminster (Utah)
Phoenix, Ariz. – Junior midfielder Jace Maxwell scored two goals and freshman midfielder Manuel Duenas assisted three times as Westminster College (8-8-1), from Salt Lake City, shut out Arizona Christian University (0-14-1), 3-0, in Friday, Oct. 28 collegiate men’s soccer action at Reach 11 Soccer Complex in Phoenix. ACU has been shut out in 9 matches this season.
The Firestorm completes their season with a Senior Night home match against Marymount College, Saturday, October 29, at 7 p.m. at Scottsdale Christian Academy (14400 North Tatum Blvd., Phoenix), with the ACU women’s soccer team playing Marymount at 5 p.m. Five ACU senior players will be honored prior to the 7 p.m. match.
Westminster outshot ACU, 24-0, and attempted 15 shots on goal. ACU’s sophomore goalkeeper Jorge Arauz (Las Vegas, Nev./Durango H.S.), in his first match back after missing six matches due to an ankle injury suffered against Soka, Oct. 7, made 12 saves. Westminster also led 7-1 in corner kicks.
Maxfield scored his first goal of the match 40 minutes into the first half and added a second goal at the 85-minute mark late in the match. Kaden Anselmo scored the Griffins’ first goal of the second half and second of the match at 59:30, and Duenas was credited with assists on all three tallies. The Griffins totaled 12 shots on goal in the second half, scoring twice.
