Men's Team of The Week: October 25
Cornell is no stranger to standout performers. The Big Red have already featured heavily in our teams of the week, buoyed by a deep squad that just keeps picking up wins. Brandon Morales is the most recent player to earn a spot. The midfielder was involved in five of Cornell’s six goals this week, helping the Big Red negotiate a difficult week — and stay within striking distance of Penn atop the Ivy League. There were plenty of notable performers this week. But Morales’ form kept his side in the conference title race. And no one else in the country did the same.
Player of the week: Brandon Morales, Cornell
Here are 10 other top performers from the last week.
Men's Team of the Week: October 17-23
GK Ryan Schewe, Georgetown - Schewe had a strong week for the Hoyas, tallying 13 saves across two games. Most importantly, though, he kept two clean sheets — and shot his team to the top of the Big East.
D Alberto Suarez, Saint Louis - Suarez was instrumental in the Billikens' upset win over Dayton. The defender scored twice while helping limit a high scoring Flyers attack to just one goal.
D Karson Kendall, High Point - Kendall helped High Point through a successful week, anchoring a defense that beat a top 10 Maryland side and adding a goal as the Panthers beat UNC Asheville.
D Vemund Hole Vik, Elon - Vik had a big week for Elon, scoring and adding an assist as the Phoneix went 2-0. He was also part of a backline that only allowed six shots on goal across 180 minutes.
D Noah Gulden, Lipscomb - Gulden had two very different — but equally effective — games last week. On October 18, he helped anchor a backline that snatched a point against a tricky Memphis side. Then, four days later, he was devastating going forward, assisting on all three goals in a 3-0 win.
M Brandon Morales, Cornell - Morales’ five goal contributions helped keep the Big Red in the Ivy League title picture.
M Shane de Flores, Stanford - de Flores provided the winner in Stanford’s 1-0 over UCLA, nodding home from just inside the six yard box. He was also impactful against San Diego State on Thursday, notching a goal and an assist.
M Ryan Becher, UMBC - Becher did it all against Vermont, scoring and assisting as the Retrievers broke Vermont’s 14 game undefeated run.
F Mouhameth Thiam, Oregon State - Thiam scored the opener as Oregon State notched a hard-earned tie at Washington — one that will keep them in the NCAA Tournament picture.
F Alex Meinhard, Tulsa - Meinhard led the Hurricanes to a 3-2 road win over Temple Saturday night — coming off the bench to notch a goal and assist.
F Eythor Bjorgolfsson, Kentucky - Bjorgolfsson continued to spark the Kentucky attack last week, having a hand in two of Kentucky’s 3 goals in a massive nonconference win over Indiana.
Honorable Mention:
F Mason Duval (Elon), GK Adam Vik (Delaware), GK Brendan Graves (Bowling Green), F Shak Mohammed (Duke), F Marlon Tabora (Georgetown), F Milo Josef (Marshall), F Jonathan Randall (Central Arkansas), M Casper Grening (Kentucky)
