Complete NSCAA Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's soccer freshman Sam Miller received her second award in as many days on Tuesday, being named the NSCAA Division I College Player of the Week. The national award follows Miller's Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honor announced on Monday. Miller stopped all 12 shots sent her way last week and hasn't given up a goal this season.
The Commack, N.Y. native has been the backstop of the only defense in Division I women's college soccer that hasn't allowed a goal this season. Lehigh's six straight shutouts and six consecutive shutouts to open a season are both school records, while the Mountain Hawks haven't allowed a goal for 633:57 dating back to last season, also a school record.
Last week, Miller made three saves, all in the first half, in a 2-0 win over Binghamton Friday. She went on to post a career-high nine saves, including seven in the first half, in a 2-0 victory at Villanova Sunday. Miller made four saves in the game's first 22 minutes to help the Mountain Hawks settle in and allow them to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Along with this week's awards, Miller was previously named Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice. For the season, she has started all 29 shots sent her way.
Lehigh now looks ahead to the beginning of Patriot League play on Saturday at Holy Cross. Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
