Miller named PL Goalkeeper of the Week
Complete Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a five-save shutout at Lafayette Saturday, Lehigh women's soccer sophomore Sam Miller has been named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the fifth time this season. In the process, Miller broke the previous league record of four Goalie of the Week Awards in a single season, held by Bucknell's Kathryn Sutton in 2007. Included among Miller's five saves on Saturday was a game-saving stop off a penalty kick in the 83rd minute, to keep the Mountain Hawks in front 1-0, on their way to the 2-0 road victory against the archrival Leopards.
This marks Miller's 10th career weekly award; she has now fbeen named Goalie of the Week eight times in her career, to go along with two Rookie of the Week honors. As a team, the Mountain Hawks have now won 12 weekly awards in the first nine weeks of the 2017 season.
Miller's shutout was her seventh of the season (and 19th of her career). Four of the saves came in the second half, including at the 82:39 mark when she dove to her right to make a tremendous game-saving stop off a penalty kick, preserving Lehigh's 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, sophomore Maggie Wadsworth gave the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 advantage.
Miller has saved three-of-four penalty kicks on the season. On the year, Miller owns a 0.54 goals against average and 0.875 save percentage.
Senior Alyssa Riporti also garnered honorable mention recognition as she's continued to anchor a Lehigh defense that's allowing just 0.64 goals per contest. The Mountain Hawks have allowed one goal or fewer in 12 of 14 games this season.
Winners of two straight games and 5-1-3 over its last nine contests, Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Bucknell to face the Bison at 7 p.m.
