Complete Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's soccer sophomore Sam Miller has added to her already-impressive resume by being named to the Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced on Monday. A two-time All-Patriot League honoree and six-time Goalkeeper of the Week this season, Miller also owns a stellar 3.89 GPA in the classroom.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Miller has excelled as a Psychology major, being named to the Dean's List every semester of her college career. She has also been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award.
On the field, Miller wrapped up her sophomore campaign by being named second team All-League for a second straight season while tallying a 0.58 goals against average and 0.883 save percentage. Miller was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week six times, a league record for a single season. Noone else in Patriot League history had won the award more than four times in a year. For as good as Miller was overall, she was even better in Patriot League play, posting a 0.52 GAA and 0.896 save percentage to help Lehigh finish 5-2-2 in the league. The 17 points were the program's second-most points ever accumulated in the Patriot League standings.
This season, Miller recorded a personal shutout streak of 348:40, this after a 758:34 shutout streak to begin last season (and her career). Miller tallied nine shutouts this season to increase her career total to 21, which is second most over a two-year stretch in school history (only behind 22 combined shutouts in 2004 and 2005). Lehigh entered last weekend top 20 nationally in shutouts since the beginning of 2016. For her career, Miller owns a 0.61 GAA and 0.872 save percentage. Her goals against average is currently eighth in the nation among active players.
The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the 2017 season with a 9-5-4 record following a heartbreaking Patriot League Quarterfinal defeat at Colgate in overtime. Miller tied a career-high nine saves in the contest. The 2017 season saw plenty of highlights, including a 27-day stretch without a loss (from Sept. 3 to Sept. 30), a weekend sweep of Big East opponents Villanova and St. John's and winning four-of-five games to close out the regular season. Five Mountain Hawks earned All-Patriot League recognition, most since they also had five honorees during Lehigh's 2010 league championship campaign.
