Milwaukee Turned Away By Oregon
Madison, Wis. - Oregon University scored two second-half goals to hand the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee a 2-0 defeat Sunday afternoon at McClimmon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wis.
The Panthers fired off eight shots in the game, two of which hit the crossbar, but were unable to find the back of the net.
UWM now falls to 0-0-2 on the year while the Ducks are now 1-0-1.
"Today's result is a little difficult to swallow considering how well we really played," head coach Greg Henschel said. "We were rather unlucky not to take a lead into halftime with some real quality chances in that opening half. Oregon came out of half, capitalized on a chance and that kind of took the wind out of our sails a little bit.
"We had some great individual efforts though. Krissy Dorre was a warrior today.Morgan LaPlant was incredible for us, especially in the first half. Vienna Behnke andMaria Stephans...today's score doesn't reflect how this game went and it especially doesn't show how hard our team worked and improved from Friday."
Milwaukee nearly jumped on top of the score column right out of the gates. Just over five minutes into the game, senior Kelly Lewers rifled a shot that beat the defense and the Oregon keeper but pinged off the crossbar.
Then, in the 26th minute, Behnke looked to have opened up the scoring for the Black & Gold but her shot, too, hit the crossbar. Amy Kauffung gathered the rebound and took a crack at it, but keeper Abby Steele was able to make the save and keep the game level at the break.

Oregon was able to score first when Bri Pugh - who has been invited to U.S. Women's Soccer U-23 training camp - got behind the Panther defense and beat Paige Lincicumone-on-one in the 52nd minute. The Ducks then added a late goal in the 83rd minute against the run of play to wrap up the scoring for the match.
Milwaukee led the corner kick count, 4-1. Oregon outshot the Panthers 14-8 on the day, while the Ducks had two saves on the day to Milwaukee's one.
The Panthers now head to South Carolina next weekend for a pair of contests in Columbia, S.C. UWM will battle the College of Charleston Friday afternoon before a Sunday early afternoon contest with the nationally-ranked host Gamecocks.
