GRAND JUNCTION – Led by junior Ryan Leach, Colorado School of Mines men's soccer tied its season-high with four first-half markers, overwhelming NSCAA No. 25 Regis, 4-0, in the RMAC Tournament semifinals Friday in Grand Junction.
Leach recorded his first collegiate brace less than 24 minutes into the start, putting away his third and fourth goals of the season on a pair of loose balls in the box at 4:05 and 23:42, respectively.
Mines (12-7) continued to dictate the action as freshman Nikolaus Grotz created a one-on-one for senior Matthew Alemann who beat the keeper with his seventh in the 32nd minute.
Grotz followed with his team-best eighth goal, ripping an indirect kick layoff from junior Joe Haines with 1:45 to play in the frame.
The men added 12 more shots in the second 45:00 to outshoot the Rangers (13-6) 24-8 and 13-4 in shots on net.
Leach and Haines shared the game-high with three on-goal chances; Grotz and freshman Preston Migaki had two apiece, and Alemann, senior Tannor Randle and redshirt freshman Ryan Blarr each sent one to target.
Sophomore Collin Hall earned his second straight shutout in goal, increasing his win-loss total to 7-5 with four saves across the regulation time.
Making their third appearance in the conference title game in five seasons and first since 2012, the Orediggers will face fifth-seeded Colorado Colorado Springs at 1 p.m. Sunday at Walker Field. UCCS (11-8-1) upset host No. 11 Colorado Mesa, 3-0, in the evening semifinal.
