Mississippi State women fall to Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Mississippi State soccer team was unable to overcome a pair of Mick Imgram second-half goals as it dropped a tough 3-0 decision to Tennessee on a stormy Friday night at Regal Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Bulldogs fall to 8-3-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the SEC following the match which saw a 50-minute weather delay following the first half.
“We can take a lot from this match. Tennessee is a very good team, and we can learn from their mentality and their speed of play,” MSU head coach Neil Macdonald said. “We didn’t come out with the same intensity after the weather delay, and we have to learn from tonight and get better.”
UT (7-5-1 overall, 3-2-0 SEC) out-shot State 23-10, but the Bulldogs put five of their attempts on goal compared to Tennessee’s six.
The Bulldogs’ Kat Walsh had three of MSU’s five on-goal efforts in the match.
Chelsea Hatcher scored the game-winner for the Lady Vols in the 16th minute when she netted a 14-yard shot past MSU senior goalkeeper Taryn Holland, who finished the night with three saves.
Imgram extended the UT lead with a 20-yard strike in the 52nd minute, and she added her second score of the night when she collected a deflected ball and deposited it into the left side of the net.
The Bulldogs return to action Sunday, traveling to Athens to take on Georgia at 1 p.m. CDT. Sunday’s match will be broadcast by Comcast Sports South.
