MONMOUTH PLAYS VILLANOVA TO 1-1 TIE
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Jelani Williams (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) scored the equalizer in the 75th minute as the Monmouth University men’s soccer team played Villanova to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex. With the tie, the Hawks (4-1-1) are unbeaten in their last four games. Villanova moves to 2-3-1.
Villanova scored in the closing seconds of the first half as Christopher Bared found Aaron Dennis on the left side for the score with the clock showing two seconds left in the period.
Monmouth drew even in the 75th minute as Williams scored unassisted on a shot from the right side for his second goal of the season.
Monmouth goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky (Lincoln Park, N.J./DePaul Catholic) made six saves in the draw, while Villanova’s Will Steiner totaled four saves. Villanova took a 23-12 edge in shots, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Monmouth took a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hawks return to action Tuesday, when they travel to South Orange to take on Seton Hall. Kickoff from Owen T. Carroll Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
