Monroe Announces 2015 Soccer Signing Class
Head coach Mary-Frances Monroe and the Hurricanes soccer staff has announced the signing of seven high school seniors to join the program for the 2015 season.
Jamie Brunworth (Littleton, Colo.), Hanna Droh (Jarfalla, Sweden), Caitlin Fryer (Bronxville, N.Y.) Camille Kelton (Holtsville, N.Y.), Molly Lynch (Greenville, S.C.), Niccola Venezia (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Ainsly Wolfinbarger (Broken Arrow, Okla.) will join a talented group of returners this fall.
“I am really excited about our 2015 recruiting class,” Monroe said. “It’s a group with great personalities on and off the field. I pride our training and game environment to be competitive, and for our players to have a mentality to win. These seven players will create a lot of depth to our roster and will compete to find significant minutes right away.”
Brunworth, a midfielder from Thunder Ride High School, competed for the Colorado ODP First Team from 2009-2012, and has played for the Colorado Rush club soccer team since 2003. She helped lead the Rush to the 2011-12 ECNL National Championships, and to the State Cup finals in 2010.
“Jamie is a winner. Her club team won an ECNL national title and has been in the top of the rankings each year in the best club team environment,” Monroe said. “Jamie is exciting to watch and has played with and against some of the best players in the country. I am excited to see what Jamie can provide to our midfield.”
Droh played for AIK and Bollstanas SK in her native Sweden, and plays as both a midfielder and forward. She led AIK to the Gothia Cup U-19 title in 2012, and helped lead the team to a silver medal in the Swedish National Futsal U-17 Championship and bronze medal in the Swedish National Soccer U-17 Championship in 2011.
“I’m very excited for Hanna joining our roster and providing us with international experience,” Monroe said. “She has played at the highest level in Sweden and will provide us depth in many positions. She is a versatile player that will show her mark right away. “
Fryer, a forward from Bronxville High School, played in the FIFA World Cup for South Africa in 2010, and was the youngest girl on the South African U-17 National Team when she made the cut at age 13. She was named All-Section, All-League and All-State in her final season at Bronxville, and took home Class B Player of the Year and league MVP honors.
“Caitlin is a sheer competitor and fun to watch. Caitlin has an amazing work rate and will provide depth to our attacking line,” Monroe said. “I’m excited to see Caitlin score some great goals for UM.”
Kelton comes to Miami from her native Holtsville, N.Y., where she graduated from Sachem East. A talented defender, Kelton played ODP (Region 1) from 2010-12, and competed on the club level for Albertson Fury from 2011-15. Kelton was also selected for the ECNL PDP-Northeast in 2013.
“Camille comes from NY and played on one of the best clubs on Long Island – Albertson,” Monroe said. “She has a lot of experience from playing on the US Youth Region I team to being top in the ECNL. I am excited to see the depth she can provide us to our backline.”
Lynch figures to continue a longstanding tradition of top goalkeepers at Miami, as she will join the Hurricanes from J.L. Mann High School and the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy. Lynch led Mann to a 28-1-0 record and a Viking Cup Championship as a junior, and finished 39-3-3 in the two seasons before that. She has played for the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy sine 2012.
“Molly has a ton of experience playing on the CESA club, which is one of the best in the state. She will provide depth to our goal keeper position and I am excited to watch her develop,” Monroe said.
Venezia, a defensive center midfielder from St. Anthony’s High School in Wantagh, N.Y., played club soccer for Farmingdale United. Venezia has competed for Eastern New York and the Regional team in ODP (2009-13), and helped lead Farmingdale to a Region I Premier League Championship in 2014.;
“Niccola has a lot of experience playing on the US Youth Soccer Region I team,” Monroe said. “She was a consistent starter for the Region I team as well as for her club team. She has grown into a wonderful player the last few years. I am excited to coach her at the collegiate level.”
Wolfinbarger joins Miami’s midfield from Bixby High School, where she was named all-conference and all-district in each of her seasons playing on the varsity level. Wolfinbarger was on the Region III ODP team, and on the club level, led the Dallas Sting to the ECNL U-17 National Championship She was selected to theECNL/id2 National Camp in 2013 and 2014.
“Ainsly has a lot of special attacking personalities that she will add to this team, “Monroe said. “She is crafty and creative on the ball and has great vision. She is super competitive and wants to win at all costs. Having coached her on the US Youth National Team, I know that she will make an immediate impact on our program.”
