Emmitsburg, Md. (October 25, 2013) -- The Mount women's soccer team fell to Northeast Conference-leading Saint Francis University by a 5-0 margin on Friday at Waldron Family Stadium.
Barbara Maros de Carvalho scored twice and dished out two assists for Saint Francis (9-7-1, 5-1-0 NEC), while Tesa McKibben racked up one goal and two assists on the day. For the Mount (4-8-3, 2-3-1 NEC), Jackie Corley took a team-high five shots to pace the offense.
The Red Flash opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Maros de Carvalho took the ball to the endline and found Mackenzie Walter, who fired a shot past a diving Rachel Bourne. The Mount defense withstood Saint Francis' pressure for most of the first half with Bourne picking up six saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Early in the second half, Corley took a shot that went high of the net seven minutes into the half.
Just 30 seconds after Corley's shot, the Red Flash worked the ball down the field and found the back of the net on Marso de Carvalho's through ball that was finished by McKibben for a 2-0 lead.
Over the next 27 minutes of play, Corley managed four shots, two of which were saved by goalkeeper Abbey Collins, and Jackie Glanfield looped a shot that rang off the crossbar.
Saint Francis broke through the Mount defense with three goals in the final 5:54 of the game to put the Mount away, 5-0.
McKibben's shot was redirected into the goal by Julia Gembry in the 85th minute for a 3-0 lead before McKibben dribbled to the endline and crossed the ball under goalkeeper Vicky Cocozza to the foot of Maros de Carvalho, who finished for a 4-0 advantage.
Saint Francis capped the scoring on Maros de Carvalho's second goal of the game on a cross from Brittany Hasson with 48 seconds left in the game.
For the Mount, which was outshot 24-7 on the day, Cocozza made three second-half saves, while Collins stopped two shots for the Red Flash.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, the Mount returns to Waldron Family Stadium to face Central Connecticut at noon.
