Mount Suffers 3-0 Setback at American
Washington (August 28, 2014) -- The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to American on the road at Reeves Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Mount (0-3) could not overcome one first-half goal followed by two more in the second half by American (1-2).
For the home side, Marley Jennings, Michaela Garcia and Erin Mulhern notched goals, while Kayla Hillard picked up a pair of assists on the day.
After back-and-forth action in the early going, American broke through with a goal in the 40th minute when Garcia sent in a cross from the right wing that Jennings finished through traffic in the middle.
American carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime before Garcia was on the receiving end of a cross off the foot of Hillard. Garcia buried her opportunity from five yards out in the 64th minute for a 2-0 lead, and Mulhern tallied the third goal of the contest in the 78th minute of play.
Rachel Bourne, who earned her first start of the season between the pipes for the Mount, made six first-half saves. In the second half, Vicky Cocozza registered two saves. On the other end, Sarah Dejak picked up one save in the opening half with Courtney Bembenek finishing the second half without yielding a goal for the Eagles.
Next on the schedule, Mount St. Mary's plays its home debut at Waldron Family Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 31, versus Lehigh at 1 p.m.
