Mountain Hawks set for Wednesday at Towson

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a complete effort vs. Temple Friday, the Lehigh women's soccer team will head to Towson on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup against the Tigers. Wednesday will mark the Mountain Hawks' final nonleague contest before this Saturday's Patriot League opener at home vs. Army West Point.
Most recently, Lehigh came out firing against Temple, recording 10 of the game's first 12 shots (all coming in the first 20 minutes). The Mountain Hawks held a 16-4 first-half edge in shots, but went into halftime scoreless. In the second half, Lehigh converted its first two shots into goals, by freshmen Rebecca Van Siclen in the 53rd minute and Courtney Supp in the 56th minute. Van Siclen was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday for her efforts, earning Lehigh's first weekly award of the season. Not only did Van Siclen score her first-career goal, the game-winner, but she also generated a number of quality chances. Van Siclen posted four shots on goal, more than the Lehigh defense allowed to Temple all game. The Mountain Hawks finished with a 20-6 edge in shots, beating the Owls for a fourth straight season (and first time in regulation after three overtime wins).
Through six games, Lehigh stands 3-3-0 with the three wins coming against defending conference regular season champions Fairleigh Dickinson (NEC) and Monmouth (MAAC), along with Friday's win over a strong Temple squad that entered 3-2-0.
The Mountain Hawks will face Towson on Wednesday, who is coming off two straight wins at Loyola and vs. UMBC and stand 2-5-1 on the season. The win over UMBC came on Monday by a 2-1 final. Among the Tigers' defeats is a 1-0 loss at Bucknell out of the Patriot League. Justine Stoner leads Towson in points with nine (four goals, one assist) while Evelyn Neidert has four (two goals) and three others own three points apiece. Megan Collins has played every minute in goal, recording a 1.92 goals against average and 0.673 save percentage.
Lehigh is 1-7 all-time vs. Towson, playing last year for the first time since 2004. Last season, the Tigers won 1-0. Lehigh's only win came in the previous meeting in 2004, 3-2 in double overtime.
Following Wednesday's game, Lehigh returns home this Saturday to host Army in its Patriot League opener. Opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
