Mountain Hawks set to face No. 5 Hoyas
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh men's soccer team is ready for another mid-week contest before returning home for the fifth Patriot League contest of the season, but this time take on a national power in No. 5 Georgetown at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks (7-2-1, 3-0-1 PL) are coming off a scoreless draw against Army West Point Saturday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex, in which they out-shot the Black Knights 15-10 without managing a score. This was Lehigh's first game without scoring a goal in 2019.
Josh Luchini remains the team's goal-scoring leader at nine, also leading the Patriot League and ranks sixth in the nation. He also has a shot on goal percentage of .720, which ranks fourth in the nation as well. Trevor Koski, Michael Tahiru and Stevo Bednarsky each figure to be threats to score with two goals each this season. Although the Mountain Hawks didn't score on Saturday, the team has a total of 16 tallies in 11 games, average 1.60 goals/game.
Against the Black Knights, Lehigh got its fourth shutout of the season and lowered its goals against average to 0.90. Senior goalkeeper Will Smith now has 19 shutouts for his career, while senior center-back Zarin Tuten remains the constant force as the anchor of the defense.
The Mountain Hawks have not lost a decision since Sept. 17 at Binghamton and have won five of their last seven games. In the Patriot League standings, just Navy and Lehigh remain with unbeaten league records.
Georgetown enters play on Tuesday ranked No. 5 in last week's United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Top 25 poll and are coming off a 0-0 draw at DePaul on Friday. The Hoyas held a 24-8 advantage in shots against the Blue Demons and a 15-2 lead in corners. The tie marked Georgetown's first of the 2019 season and just its second non-winning decision after falling to No. 17 Louisville on Sept. 24. Derek Dodson leads the Hoyas in scoring with 11 points on three goals and five assists. Zach Riviere has added four goals and an assist, while Jacob Montes has added four goals and Paul Rothrock has a team-high six assists. As a team, Georgetown is averaging 2.33 goals/game and holding opponents to a 0.56 mark. The Hoyas have a .424 shot on goal percentage and are averaging 14.7 shots/game.
Georgetown leads the all-time series over Lehigh, 2-0. The Hoyas won the last matchup between the two teams back on Oct. 9, 2012 at Shaw Field by a score of 2-0. They were the NCAA Tournament Runner-Ups at the conclusion of that season.
The game will be available for streaming on Hoyavision ($) with coverage beginning at 3 p.m.
