Mountain Hawks travel to Loyola on Saturday
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a midweek loss to Princeton, the Lehigh women's soccer team looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Loyola looking to remain undefeated in Patriot League play. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Saturday marks the mid-point of league play (game five of nine) as Lehigh enters the weekend 2-0-2 in the Patriot League, good for a second-place tie in the standings.
The Mountain Hawks were riding a four-game unbeaten streak before falling to Princeton 4-1 on Wednesday night. Lehigh has beaten American and Lafayette while playing Bucknell and Boston University to ties. Princeton jumped out to a blazing start against Lehigh with three goals in the span of 16:55 in the first half and never looked back. Freshman Adrian Vitello scored her first-career goal in a much stronger second-half performance by Lehigh.
The Mountain Hawks have tallied seven goals in their last five games, led by freshman Grace Correll and senior Darby Wiegand who've provided much of the offensive firepower for Lehigh this season. The rookie has recorded four goals and three assists while the veteran has contributed four goals and one assist. Correll received three awards after her two-goal, one-assist week, including Patriot League Rookie of the Week and ECAC Rookie of the Week while being named a College Soccer 360 National Primetime Performer of the Week.
The Greyhounds are 4-8-1 this season and 0-3-1 in league play. They're riding a four-game losing streak into this weekend's matchup, but six of Loyola's eight losses this season have come by just one goal. In Patriot League play, the Greyhounds have tied Holy Cross and fallen to Colgate, Bucknell and Army. Juniors Jessica Van Dyke and Rosy Hayes have been the standouts offensively for the Greyhounds, producing nine points (four goals, one assist) and six points (two goals, two assists), respectively. Colleen Folan has played every minute in goal and owns a 1.20 goals against average and .754 save percentage.
Loyola leads the all-time series, 3-1. The Mountain Hawks beat the Greyhounds for the first time last season, 2-1.
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh will play three straight Patriot League contests. The Mountain Hawks return to action next Saturday (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m. when they host Army on Senior Night.
