The 2020 cycle of the Under-20 World Cup will no longer take place, with FIFA canceling the Women’s youth World Cups that had been rescheduled for early 2021.
After a strong performance at the 2020 Under-20 Concacaf Championship, the United States had plenty of potential to make some noise. A deep forward line set to feature some of the best attackers in college soccer could’ve erased recent memories of recent failures at this age group.
It’s a bummer for the players, albeit an understandable decision given the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, FIFA took things one step further and has already canceled the 2021 editions of the men’s youth World Cups.
