NDSU Claims 3-2 Win Over Hawai'i
WAIPAHU, HAWAI'I - The North Dakota State soccer team picked up its second win of the season Saturday, Aug. 27 in a 3-2 victory over Hawai'i at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex. The Bison improve to 2-1 this season while Hawai'i falls to 0-2.
The Bison struck early, taking the lead at the 5:04 mark of the first half on a strike from senior Morgan DeMike, her second of the season.
Sophomore Katie Tallas doubled NDSU's lead six minutes later after receiving a through ball from senior Danielle Boldenow and then dribbling around the goalie and slotting the ball home.
Hawai'i responded with shots on goal from Alexis Colacchio and Brittani Lum, but senior goalie Kalani Bertsch made the stop on both attempts.
The Rainbow Wahine pulled one back at the 27:15 mark of the first half as Lum scored on a free kick.
The home side equalized just after halftime as Colleen Burns put in a free kick from Rachel Domingo.
The game-winning goal for NDSU came on a Hawai'i own goal at the 62:08 mark of the second half.
After the goal, the NDSU defense was able to hold Hawai'i without a shot for the final 27 minutes of the contest.
The Bison held a 7-6 edge in shots and the teams took two corner kicks apiece.
NDSU will play its fourth straight road game Saturday, Sept. 4 at Wisconsin-Green Bay.
