Nevada falls in first MW road match, 3-1
The University of Nevada soccer team opened its first Mountain West road trip of the season with a 3-1 loss to Fresno State Friday evening at Bulldog Stadium.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (3-6-3, 1-2 MW) on the season, while Fresno State improves to (4-7-1, 1-2 MW).
The Wolf Pack got on the board first, as midfielder Bobby Reilly received a pass from Daisha Jones-Oglesby and put the ball in the back of the net to put Nevada ahead 1-0 in the 16th minute. The assist by Jones-Oglesby is the third of the season for the sophomore, while Reilly's goal is her second of the year. Six minutes later, Fresno State's Morgan Castain netted her six goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1.The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Shonice Myers with 16 minutes left to play in the half.
Nevada goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos was challenged early on in the second period, recording several saves out of the break to counter the Bulldogs attack. Castain pushed the Fresno State lead to 3-1 with her second goal of the night in the 55th minute. Jones-Oglesby had a shot on goal in the 59th minute that was saved by Bulldogs goalkeeper Katie Devault, leading to a Wolf Pack corner kick that was cleared by the Fresno State defense. The Bulldogs picked up its first Mountain West win of the season, defeating the Wolf Pack 3-1.
The Wolf Pack will remain on the road to face San José State Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
