Nevada Falls To Texas Tech 1-0
The Texas Tech Red Raiders defeated the University of Nevada soccer team 1-0 Friday evening in Lubbock, Texas.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (1-3-1, 0-0 MW) on the season, while Texas Tech improves to (5-0, 0-0 Big 12).
“We did not play our best soccer tonight,” head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. “We needed to keep possession and be more composed under pressure. I’m disappointed with the loss and I’m confident we will play better Sunday.”
Nevada and Texas Tech opened the game with a scoreless first half. Texas Tech looked aggressive to start the game, gaining a nine to four shots advantage over Nevada. The Wolf Pack defense kept the Red Raiders attack in check, as the teams went into the break 0-0.
Wolf Pack senior goal keeper Dana Moreno and the Nevada defense remained active in the second half. Moreno notched a season high eight saves as the Wolf Pack defense fought to keep the team in the game. The Red Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the 81st minute, as Janine Beckie fired a 15-yard shot into the net. The goal would be the deciding factor, as Texas Tech claimed the 1-0 win.
Nevada will remain on the road, taking on its second Big 12 opponent Sunday with a match against TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
