New Mexico Hands CSUB 4-0 Defeat In Women’s Soccer Opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M—The University of New Mexico (1-0-1) handed CSU Bakersfield a 4-0 defeat in the 2011 season opener for the Roadrunners Sunday afternoon.
Jennifer Williams and Rachel Montoya scored goals 4:11 apart in the opening 10 minutes of the first half to give the Lobos the early advantage. Amanda Collins and Briana Martinez scored in the second half for the Lobos. CSUB played the final 70+ minutes a player down when Sam Peña (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) was issued a red card.
CSUB goalie Kym Gause (Sr., Manteca, Calif., Modesto JC) made six saves as New Mexico outshot CSUB 18-5.
The Roadrunners return home Friday night when CSUB hosts Cal Poly in a 7 p.m. match at the Main Soccer Field.
