Newman Women Drop Opener at FHSU, 1-0

HAYS, Kan.- The Newman women’s soccer team fell to Fort Hays State Saturday night in their season opener. The Jets were out-shot 7-1 by the Tigers in the first half and couldn’t come back after allowing an FHSU goal in the 34th minute.
- Newman goalkeeper Christina Farid had nine saves in the match, allowing one goal.
- Newman was out shot 20-11 in the match.
- Newman’s first shot didn’t come until the 27th minute, missing wide left from Mallory Hurst.
- The Jets finished the match with seven shots on goal.
- Newman’s Emily Arden led the team with three shots and two shots on goal.
- Arden had the final opportunity to even the match for Newman with a shot on goal in the 86th minute.
With the loss, the Jets fall to 0-1 on the season. They will return to action Monday, hosting arch-rival Friends in a 7 p.m. contest at Wilkins Field.
