Nine-man DuPage beats LLCC in OT
Even with a two-player advantage due to ejections, the Lincoln Land Community College Loggers let Saturday’s game against College of DuPage get away from them.
DuPage pulled out a 2-1 overtime win at the Loggers Invitational 5 minutes 6 seconds into sudden death after Joshua Bennett slid the game-winning shot into the net from six yards out.
“We should have won the game,” LLCC coach T.J. Mabie said. “We had a great opportunity to beat a really good team.”
The Loggers led 1-0 after Raphael Riffin followed up teammate Manga Cisse’s free kick and scored with 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
DuPage lost a player to a red card late in the opening half. The team lost another to a soft red, forcing them to play with only nine players for the last 16 minutes of the second half and overtime.
“We played a lot better when they had their full squad,” Mabie said. “They just sat back and put eight guys back and one guy up, and countered on us and waited for us to make a mistake.
“If we finish in the first half, it’s a different game. We outworked and outplayed them in the first half. We kept them in the game by not finishing.”
Momudu Sluwar tied the game at 1 when he scored on a direct kick from 25 yards out 15 minutes into the second half.
