No. 12 Women’s Soccer Drops St. Mary’s To Complete Texas Sweep
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Showing no signs of a celebratory hangover from yesterday's top-five win at NSCAA No. 4 St. Edward's, No. 12 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer downed St. Mary's, 1-0, Sunday morning at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio, Texas.
Mines (3-0-1) opened the scoring in the first half for the initial time this season as sophomore Anna Deleray sent a corner attempt to classmate Caitlin Kaltenbaugh who converted her first score from eight yards to the far, right corner.
The lone score held as the Orediggers surrendered only two shots on frame, outshooting St. Mary's (1-3) 8-2 and 16-9 overall.
Deleray directed a game-best three of her six looks on target; Kaltenbaugh, freshman Brooke Stoermer, juniors Rachael Turner and Deirdre Johnson, and senior Kenzie King each accounted for one shot on goal.
Junior Jayln Yates moved into a share of the program's career shutouts lead with Briana Schulze (2007-10) with her third straight and 26th overall, extending her consecutive scoreless minutes streak to 338:39 with two saves Sunday.
The women remain away from home next weekend to start the conference schedule, beginning at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Colorado State-Pueblo.
