No. 14 Marauders, Bobcats Play to a Draw
Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Millersville men’s soccer team looked to get back in the win column after dropping back-to-back games for the first time since 2009. The No. 14 Marauders traveled to West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday for a pivotal Atlantic Region match. The teams play through 110 minutes to end in a tie.
Wesleyan (6-2-1) scored in the fifth minute of play to take the first lead of the match. Matthew Brown dribbled past the Millersville defense and beat goalkeeper Brad Benzing to the left side.
The Marauders (5-2-1) avoided a repeat of last year’s performance when senior Pat Baffuto evened the score at 1-1 in the 23rd minute. Aaron Roland passed the ball up to Baffuto, who beat the Bobcat goalkeeper far side.
The game stayed tied at 1-1 heading into the break. The teams were even in shots with five each.
Neither team found a game-winner in the second session, sending the game into extra time. Millersville registered a total of three shots in two extra periods, while the Bobcats failed to record a shot. Through 110 total minutes of play, the teams ended in a draw.
Millersville fell to Wesleyan at home a season ago by a score of 1-0. The Marauders moved up to No. 2 in the Atlantic Region last week, while the Bobcats slid four spots to No. 6 after losing twice.
Millersville stays on the road Wednesday, Oct. 5 when it travels to Long Island, N.Y. to take on the eighth-ranked Pioneers of C.W. Post. The Marauders and Pioneers are suggested to kick off at 4 p.m.
