No. 20 Marauders Continue to Roll, Blank Seton Hill 5-0
Greensburg, Pa. – The Millersville men’s soccer team traveled to Seton Hill for its first-ever meeting with the Griffins. The No. 20 Marauders earned their fourth shutout of the season, defeating Seton Hill by a score of 5-0 Thursday afternoon.
Seton Hill (2-5) got on the board first in the 24th minute of play. But they scored for the wrong team. Millersville’s Brian Dingle dribbled to the baseline and sent in a cross that was deflected in by a Griffin defender for an own goal to put the Marauders up, 1-0.
Millersville (5-0) increased its lead six minutes later. Senior Aaron Roland played the ball up to Andrew Dukes who found himself on a break. Dukes struck the ball low, beating the Seton Hill goalkeeper to the left side to put the Marauders up, 2-0.
The scored remained 2-0 heading into the break. Millersville fired seven shots, five on goal, in the first half. The Griffins only mustered one shot in the side.
The Marauders wasted no time in the second session, extending their lead to three in the 52nd minute. Dukes controlled the ball into the attack zone and chipped it over the defense. Senior Pat Baffuto collected the pass and went one-on-one with the keeper. Baffuto sent the ball top shelf, beating Seton Hill’s goalkeeper to the right side.
Dukes increased his point total and the Millersville lead two minutes later. Junior Matt Kadoch won the ball in the box and fired a shot toward the goal. Kadoch drilled the post, sending the ball out of the box. Dukes settled down the ball and ripped it low and to the left to give the Marauders a 4-0 lead.
In the 73rd minute, two newcomers contributed to the Millersville lead . In his first action of the season, freshman Tyler Roberts dribbled the ball down the left side and hooked one into the box. Freshman Colby Klumpp received the pass at the penalty mark and sent a left footer into the right corner of the twine. Roberts and Klumpp were high school teammates a year ago at Middletown.
The last time the Marauders scored five goals in a game was on Oct. 19, 2010 in another 5-0 victory over District of Columbia at Chryst Field.
Redshirt Freshmen Brad Benzing and Shayne Fitzwater both saw action in goal for Millersville. Benzing (5-0) picked up his fifth win of the season, making one save in the affair. Fitzwater made two saves in his first appearance of the season.
The Marauders outshot the Griffins by a 16-4 margin, with 11 shots on goal.
Millersville continues its road trip Sunday, Sept. 25 at Wilmington (Del.). The Marauders and Wildcats are slated to square off at 2 p.m.
