<p>Under guidance from new head coach <a href="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/golan_stefanie00.html">Stefanie Golan</a>, the University of Minnesota women's soccer team grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the match, but No. 4-ranked Florida State University battled back to pull out a 3-2 victory on Friday night at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.<br /> <br /> Last year's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, <a href="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/uhl_taylor00.html">Taylor Uhl</a> capitalized on a FSU turnover in the sixth minute as she netted the first goal of the match. Uhl garnered the ball with her back at goal, but would face up and go one-on-one with a Seminole defender for nearly 20 yards before striking a ball past the creeping FSU goalkeeper.<br /> <br /> Just over a minute later, fellow Eden Praire, Minn. native, <a href="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/thyken_katie00.html">Katie Thyken</a>, took advantage of a miscue by FSU goalkeeper Kelsey Wys, who left the goal unattended as she went to clear a ball outside of the box. Thyken would corral the clearance and chip the ball into the back of the net from nearly 30-yards out.<br /> <br /> Florida State would respond shortly as Dagny Brynjarsdottir slipped a ball past Minnesota goalkeeprer <a href="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/parkhill_cat00.html">Cat Parkhill</a> in the 14th minute.<br /> <br /> The Seminoles threatened to even the match in the 29th minute, but <a href="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/bagnall_olivia00.html">Olivia Bagnall</a> would make a great defensive play by deflecting away an Ines Jaurena shot on goal. The save would secure the Maroon &amp; Gold's 2-1 lead, which would carry into halftime.<br /> <br /> Even with having a one-goal lead, the Gophers came out firing in the second half in an attempt to extend their lead over the high-powered offense.<br /> <br /> Uhl and fellow sophomore <a href="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/wodnick_taylor00.html">Taylor Wodnick</a> generated the best opportunities for the Gophers as each were inches from giving Minnesota a two-goal lead over the nationally-ranked foe.<br /> <br /> Florida State would weather the storm early on in the half and quickly turn the tables on Minnesota.<br /> <br /> In the 62nd minute, FSU would even the match when Nora Kervroedan volleyed a ball, which came off a Parkhill save, into the upper 90 of the net.<br /> <br /> The two would continue to offset possession the rest of the match, but it was the Seminoles that captured the game-winning goal with the clock winding down.<br /> <br /> Off a lengthy throw in by Jessica Price, Jaurena showed her offensive ability again as she headed home the game-winner from the far post.<br /> <br /> Minnesota hopes to avenge its loss on Sunday as it face another nationally-ranked opponent in No. 24 South Carolina, who drew 0-0 with Milwaukee on Friday night. The match is slated for a noon kickoff at ELR Stadium.</p>
