Northern Arizona women announce spring schedule

March 21, 2012
The Northern Arizona soccer team will play a five-game spring schedule, four of which will be held at Lumberjack Stadium, beginning this Sunday against Embry-Riddle at 2 p.m. in preparation for the upcoming fall season. The Lumberjacks are coming off a 3-9-7 season last fall, finishing one spot out of qualifying for the Big Sky conference tournament for the fourth straight season.

“Spring is a time for us to evaluate our current players and see where they are with their progression,” said head coach Andre Luciano. “I don’t put much emphasis in terms of the results, but we do have some goals that we’re looking for individually and collectively as a team. We’re having to integrate the younger players, specifically the freshmen, into the system and I’ve seen some positive strides in some areas and others that still need some work.”

Freshman Sarah Tarver and sophomore Lauren Weaver, both of whom were All-Big Sky honorable mention selections in the fall, headline the returning players who will play in the five-game slate. The Lumberjacks will host Embry-Riddle, New Mexico Highlands, Grand Canyon University and Arizona, while they will travel down to Phoenix to play Arizona State.
