ODU Beats Marshall For Fourth Straight
SOCCER MONARCHS DEFEAT MARSHALL 3-0 FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT WIN
NORFOLK, VA—Goals from Ryan Condotta, Ivan Militar and Jesse Miralrio lifted the ODU Soccer Monarchs (8-3-1/5-1) to a 3-0 Conference USA victory over Marshall Wednesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Monarchs, who have and NCAA RPI of 28 and rank 29th by College Soccer News have won four straight and five of their last seven. The victory gives ODU 15 points and puts the Monarchs in first ahead of both UAB and New Mexico who were idle tonight. They both have 13 points.
The Monarchs first goal came with less than four minutes on the clock when senior forward Tim Hopkinson (Nottingham, England) hit sophomore midfielder Ryan Condotta (Keller, TX.) for a goal, his second of the season and Hopkinson’s third assist of the year for a 1-0 halftime lead. Hopkinson now has a team best 21 total points on a C-USA best nine goals along with three assists.
In the second half, with 16 minutes left, Ivan Militar (Szeged, Hungary) scored his fourth goal the season on an assist from freshman Jesse Miralrio (Arlington, TX.). Miralrio then scored the Monarchs third and final of the night in the final minute of play with an assist from Oliver De Their (Great Falls, VA.). Miralrio now has seven points on two goals and three assists this season.
The Monarchs dominated play, outshooting the Herd, 22-5 overall and 8-2 in shots on goal. Monarch senior goalkeeper Sean Stowe (Midlothian, VA.), C-USA Defensive Player of the Week made two saves as he posted his second straight shutout.
ODU has now scored 18 of their 25 goals in the second half thus far this season.
The Monarchs return to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Boca Raton, FL., against Florida Atlantic. ODU then plays a make-up contest with VCU on Oct. 30th in Richmond, VA.
