ODU Earns Win No. 1 with Home Shutout of Eagles
September 19, 2011
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican''s women''s soccer team got themselves back on track Friday evening at Panther Field as the Panthers shut out visiting GLIAC South Division rival Ashland, 2-0, for their first win of the 2011 season.
Just 1:09 into the game as fans were still settling into their seats, the Panthers had already grabbed the 1-0 advantage as senior Sierra Patterson (Brecksville, OH) placed a long cross from the far left wing sideline to the front of the net where a streaking Megan Augusta (So./Lyndhurst, OH) put it in from just inside the penalty box for her team leading second score of the year.
ODU (1-3-1, 1-1-1 GLIAC) continued to control much of the tempo throughout the remainder of the game and in the 72nd minute received an insurance goal as junior Jennifer Holton (Johnstown, OH) notched her first score of the year with a shot straight on goal from about seven yards away off a Patterson cross from the near right wing. With the pair of assists, Patterson, ODU''s all-time assists leader, now sits at 25 for her career.
The Panthers finished with a 13-8 edge on shots, including 9-5 edge on shots on goal, while freshman keeper Laura Clark (Lapeer, MI) picked up her first career win in goal, recording five saves in the 90 minutes.
ODU will look to continue its momentum as it heads to Painesville on Sunday, Sept. 18 for a 1 p.m. matchup with South Division foe, Lake Erie.
