ODU Falls Short To George Washington 2-1
NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University women’s soccer team lost a hard fought match to George Washington on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Colonials scored the first two goals of the game before the Lady Monarchs were able to answer back with a goal of their own, but it was not enough as G.W. held onto a 2-1 victory.
Scoring started in the 28th minute of play, when George Washington’s Alex Neal played a lead pass to teammate Lina Proska, who was barely able to get a slow roller past ODU keeper Meredith Lenox. The two teams went to halftime with George Washington hanging on to a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, it was Proska who struck again for the Colonials, this time off an assist from Mackenzie Cowley in the 58th minute of play.
Thirteen minutes later, the Lady Monarchs scored a goal of their own when Devin Dougherty finished Carly Goldsborough’s beautiful lead pass through the air. Despite a flurry of Old Dominion attacks, the Colonials were able to hold off ODU and advance to 2-2-0 on the season; the Lady Monarchs fall to 0-5-0.
Old Dominion will be back in action on Saturday, September 14, when they will travel to Fairfax, Va. to take on George Mason at 7 p.m.
