ODU Jousts Blue Knights in Non-Conference Affair
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team picked up a key regional win Tuesday evening as the Panthers collected their second shutout of the year with a 3-0 win over former AMC foe Urbana at Panther Field.
ODU, currently ranked seventh in the recent NSCAA/adidas Midwest Regional Poll, moved to 8-5-3 overall and 6-4-0 at home, while the Blue Knights fell to 6-9-1 and 2-6-0 on the road.
Urbana came out as the aggressor over the game's opening 10 minutes, but the Panthers were able to grab the initial momentum and take the 1-0 lead in the 25th minute as senior Felix Darko (Reynoldsburg, OH) gathered a loose ball in front of the net and tallied his sixth score of the year with a straight-on 14-yard look.
Play swung back-and-forth over the remainder of the first half and into the second before junior Andrew Edler (Hilliard, OH) beat the keeper to the far, lower 90 with a 17 yard blast from the right wing off a cross from sophomore Duncan Campbell (Hilliard, OH) at the 67:14 mark.
Just over 14 minutes later, the Hilliard tandem hooked up again as Campbell, from the far right wing, found a streaking Edler who one-timed a straight-on shot from nine yards deep for his fourth score of the season and second multi-goal game of his career. The two scores matched his effort at Tiffin back on Oct. 13 when he tallied goals in both the first and second halves of ODU's 2-2 draw with the Dragons.
Senior goalie Andrew Jones (Worthington, OH) improved his record to 3-1-1 and collected the second shutout of his young career, swiping three shots.
The Panthers are in action at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 28 as they take on Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) in their regular season road finale.
